What We Stand For
Given the recent political climate in the United States, we decided that we needed to give people an opportunity to get involved. As students from a diverse school in the most diverse city of America, we have had access to so many resources and opportunities that many other people don't have. With that said, the purpose of National Activism Day is to get activist organizations across the country to join together and create a powerful message for the people of America. This day commemorates activists and gives students and adults the opportunity to get involved. Much of what we see right now is performative activism where support for strong purposeful movements have just become an Instagram trend. Our mission is to combat exactly that and help people sustain and channel the same energy they have today into purposeful change tomorrow.
We just wanted to let you guys know that we didn't expect to have this much engagement with our event, and it definitely means a lot to us that thousands of y'all are interested. However, please bear with us if you encounter any issues with National Activism Day because, at the end of the day, we are only a group of high school students without tons of experience in event planning and handling virtual platforms! Our mission is to truly provide you guys with the chance of getting into the world of activism. In the case that you aren't able to attend National Activism Day, please feel free to contact us and we can provide you with a 1:1 session on how to become an activist in your community. Lots of Love- Michelle (National Activism Day Founder)
WHEN IS NATIONAL ACTIVISM DAY?
As of 2020, National Activism Day will be held on October 3rd all day. However, our regional fairs may occur on different dates around this time, so be sure to be on the look out for those dates as well!
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE DAY AND HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?
It is incredibly easy to participate! On October 3rd, our regional liaisons will be hosting online activism fairs throughout the country. These activism fairs will consist of activist organizations setting up workshops and panels. If you would like to be a regional liaison and help set up an activism fair in your community, be sure to check out our "regions" tab! Also, check out the "Plan an activism fair" tab for more information. We will also be hosting a national livestream all day. Our partners will be scheduled to set up workshops and speaker panels that can be accessed on our "Join a livestream" tab!
HOW DO I STAY ON TOP OF ALERTS ABOUT NATIONAL ACTIVISM DAY?
We currently are on Instagram, Tiktok, and this website, so feel free to follow our social media and keep this page handy. Be sure to RSVP to our event/contact us to join our email list for more updates about the event. :)
IS THIS JUST FOR 2020?
Hopefully not. This day was definitely inspired by the recent events in 2020, but we hope to host National Activism Day every year because change doesn't just take one year. It takes decades.
IS THIS JUST FOR STUDENTS?
Definitely not! While this day was planned by seniors in high school, our purpose is suited for people of all ages. It is never too late to help make a change. If you are an adult and would like to help plan this event, feel free to contact us! We would love the support.
WHAT ABOUT CORONAVIRUS?
We are aware of the current situation and are watching COVID-19 conditions closely. Fortunately, for the 2020 year, we have decided to make our event completely virtual to reduce risk of transmission. Regional fairs will be online, as well as our national livestream.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REGIONAL FAIR AND YOUR NATIONAL LIVESTREAM?
Our national livestream is open to everyone across the nation. However, since there appears to be a high volume of attendance, we unfortunately cannot be as personal when it comes to moderating discussions. Our regional fairs, hopefully, can do just that! For those who would like to be apart of more personal discussions and are from some of the listed regions on our website, feel free to contact our regional lead and let them know!
